Our Story

We're sisters so "our story" began a long time ago, but the stonemarkers part of our story began in 2003 when Jamie left a lucrative career in the corporate world to go on a journey to which God called her. That journey took Jamie to places from Florida to California to New York City and put her in front of people that could have only been orchestrated by design. Jamie would frequently call me, opening the conversation with “You’re not going to believe who we have a meeting with today!” Knowing Jamie was on a unique journey in which no part should be forgotten, I would frequently ask “Are you writing this stuff down?” her response was "No, but I'll never forget this."

One day in Jamie's Old Testament reading she found herself frustrated with the Israelites, so quickly and completely they seemed to forget all that God had delivered them from, and all that he had provided for them on their journey. But it was in that moment she recognized she was no different, no better than the Israelites. She too was at risk of turning and leaning into her own ways, forgetting all that her own eyes had seen and experienced of God.

And so the first stonemarkers kit was created. Jamie grabbed a small vase to keep on her desk, some marbles and a tiny journal. She began to record in the journal the ways God had been evident and active. For each entry she dropped a marble in the vase for the visual reminder which kept her humble when big things were happening, and hopeful when she found herself with her head against the sliding glass door wondering what she was doing and where God had gone.

I began sharing the concept of recording and marking moments with my bible study group and other friends, encouraging us all to do the same. Friend after friend suggested we put kits together to sell to them, each time I suggested they create their own, but the prevailing response was "Yeah, but I probably won't. If you put it all together for me I'd buy it."

Though Jamie and I live miles and miles apart, we came together and created a small business. We designed journals, ordered a ton (literally!) of stones and pebbles, created custom canvas bags to hold the stones, and put together packaging. The day we dumped hundreds of pounds of stones on the floor we at in awe realizing all of those pebbles and stones represented some movement of God, it was a humbling and hoy moment. We spread our hands over those stones and prayed before we began moving them into the bags. We are grateful for all they ways people use their stonemarkers kits, remembering the moments that matter, to record the incremental healing progress of a man in the burn unit of a hospital, the gratitude of a dad - who each night would drop a stone in the jar and make a note of something he was grateful for that day, for recording memories at a memorial for a man gone way too soon and very unexpected. The list goes on and on…

Jamie's journey returned her to the corporate world, taking with her all those moments and miracles. She will never forget what her eyes have seen, and her memories will not be blotted out because they have been recorded in her journal and marked with stones. Today we remain humbled as we hear the ways God is using our small basement business to help others recognize God’s handiwork and mark the many moments that matter. Our stories, and God’s story in our lives, can be told and even passed on to shape and impact future generations. Our desire is that God receives the glory in all that we do.

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. - Deuteronomy 4:9
